Year-wise PYQ practice

UPSC Prelims PYQ papers year-wise: 2011 to 2026

A year-wise paper is most useful when it is attempted as a paper—not browsed as a list. Use recent years for exam simulation and older years for additional pattern practice.

Reviewed: 29 July 2026Reading time: 9 minutesBased on UPSC papers and rules
Recommended order

Preserve two recent papers for final diagnostics. Use the remaining recent papers as timed tests, then use older papers to expand the pattern library and revisit subjects where your accuracy remains weak.

How to use the years

UPSC Genie’s live bank spans all of these years. It currently contains 1,596 validated GS Paper I questions; a few years have minor gaps while validation continues. That is why the product is described as a large practice bank rather than a perfect digital replica of every booklet.

Before starting a year-wise paper

After the paper: calculate three scores

Net score
Exam outcome

Correct marks minus one-third penalty on wrong answers.

Knowledge accuracy
High-confidence items

Shows whether core learning is stable.

Decision accuracy
Medium/low confidence

Shows whether your elimination and attempt rules work.

A rising net score with falling high-confidence accuracy is fragile. A stable knowledge score plus improving decision accuracy is a healthier signal.

Frequently asked questions

Which UPSC Prelims year should I solve first?
If you are exam-ready, start with the most recent complete paper you have not already studied. If you are still learning subjects, use subject-wise sets before attempting a full year.
Should I solve the 2026 paper immediately?
You can use it for current pattern awareness, but preserve at least one recent untouched paper for a genuine timed diagnostic.
Where can I download official UPSC question papers?
UPSC publishes current previous papers and an archive on its official website. This page links to both.
Are UPSC Genie answers official answer keys?
No. Explanations and working answers are editorial aids. Check UPSC answer keys where available, especially for disputed questions.
